PACKED audiences at Lydney Town Hall were taken on a tour of some of the greatest songs from the movies by the Forest Musical Society.

The concert format allows more singers time in the spotlight and the large audiences responded well, said society chairman Elliott Burge.

The songs ranged from traditional musicals such as The Wizard of Oz to James Bond and comedies such as Sister Act.

Mr Burge said: “The format gives more people the opportunity to shine and we had large audiences who enjoyed the show.”

Work is about to start on the autumn show which has extra significance as it marks the society’s 25th anniversary.

Andrew Smith and Mr Burge will be producing the show which will feature highlights from the last quarter of a century.

Mr Burge added: “We’ve done some great shows over the years such as Oliver and Chicago and we’ll also be including songs from shows such as Les Miserables.”

The show will run at Lydney Town Hall between Thursday, October 12, and Saturday, October 14, and Mr Burge is hoping more people will come forward to join for the special concert.

He added: “We have people of all ages and it’s great to see the way their confidence increases and the friendships that are formed.”

Rehearsals will start at Coleford Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 14. For more information call Mr Burge on 0757 232 0753.
