THE annual fire and wood festival at the Dean Heritage Centre celebrated local crafts, even if the Bank Holiday weather wasn’t exactly perfect.

Among the highlights was the charcoal burn with experts on hand to explain the process of converting Forest of Dean wood into charcoal.

The festival featured local craftspeople and each day a different fire performer demonstrated their skills.

As well as demonstrations of traditional crafts such as blacksmithing, green woodworking, leather craft and pyrography, there were also a number of workshops.

There are two exhibitions at the centre in Soudley which run until Sunday (June 4) with outdoor sculptures in association with Arts in the Marches.

There is also Creative Collaboration which brings together the work of local artists – Mary Deaville, Emma Drabble, Doug Eaton, Sian Gibbs, MissFire, Monique Oliver, Rhys Partridge, Kathy Priddis, Rachel Sudworth and Mary Rose Young.
