ASPIRING and established artists are being invited to submit artworks in a competition to find a design for the walls of the new college campus in Cinderford’s Northern Quarter.
Artists of all ages are asked to create a piece that represents the beauty and heritage of the Forest of Dean or the college’s ethos ‘learning that works’ and education that prepares people for future careers.
Sandra Tyrrell, site principal, said: “The competition allows people to really unleash their creativity and pieces of any size and media will be considered. The best work will be unveiled at the new campus when it opens to welcome students in September.
“The Forest of Dean has a rich and vibrant arts and crafts scene, and Gloucestershire College is part of an elite group of the best arts and media providers, so we really want to bring the two together to showcase the heritage of the area alongside education that prepares young people for the world of work.
“The new campus has been designed to be eco-friendly and sustainable, whilst reflecting the beauty of its rural surroundings. We can’t think of a better way to complement this than by showcasing artworks created by local people who are passionate about our ethos ‘learning that works’ and about the Forest of Dean.”
If students want to submit work that forms part of their studies, the college will keep pieces safe, if required, for exam moderation. All work submitted must be labelled with the entrant’s name, age, address and current school, if applicable.
Work should be delivered to the current Forest of Dean Campus reception, based at Five Acres, by 3.30pm on Thursday, June 14. An iPad will be given as a prize for the best entry, with £200 and £100 vouchers for second and third prizes respectively.
