ON behalf of the committee of the Yvonne Walkerdine Music Bursary, I would like to extend grateful thanks for the magnificent sum of £225 raised for our project at the Springfield Singers recent Christmas concert at Lydney Town Hall.
I was fortunate enough to be able to attend this wonderful evening of community music making, which featured the marvellous Springfield Singers under the excellent direction of Sarah Waycott and pianist Richard Watson.
They were very ably supported by Chepstow Big Band, Swingcopation who added tremendous seasonal sparkle and by the children of Yorkley School choir, who reminded us all what Christmas is all about.
Very many thanks to all these performers for giving up their time and talent to support our cause and to the audience who gave so generously.
I should like to take this opportunity to remind schools about our new schools grant.
Forest of Dean state-funded schools, both primary and secondary, are invited to apply for a grant of £500 in order to boost classroom musicianship and creativity.
In 2018 the committee was delighted to have been able to award both Primrose Hill and Soudley primary schools grants to improve and maintain music making.

Again, thanks to all those who have supported our project throughout the year. Best greetings to everyone for a peaceful and musical 2019.
