CALDICOT'S mini rugby team – the under 10's – have won their first major competition.

Sponsored by Crest Homes, the team travelled across the Severn Bridge to take part in the annual Clifton rugby club tournament against teams representing many major clubs such as Bristol and Bath.

Caldicot kicked off their campaign with a comfortable six tries to nil win over Wellington. Then successive wins against Bristol, Bath and Clifton put Caldicot through to the final as section winners, having conceded only one try by this stage while scoring 15.

The final was against a very strong Avon team who took the advantage with a slick move resulting in a try for their winger. Caldicot were not in the mood for letting the game slip through and some determined tackling and re-cycling of the ball resulted in an equaliser scored by Elliott Cracknell.

Caldicot scored twice more but conceded a late try to make the final score 3-2.
