FORGET Brazil – the big match on Saturday took place at Caldicot Castle where one of the biggest names in football tied the knot.
Staff at the castle had been sworn to secrecy about the wedding of Arsenal and Wales star Aaron Ramsey who married childhood sweetheart Colleen Rowlands in a low-key wedding.
Rumours had been circulating in the town for weeks that the couple had chosen the Monmouthshire County Council-owned venue to get married – although nobody appeared to know the date.
So it was only a small crowd who saw the Premiership star arrive by helicopter in Caldicot Country Park to be joined by his-to-be who travelled by car.
The country park – in which the castle sits – was open as normal on Saturday with no restrictions on access.
Although the Review understands that one enthusiastic fan scaled the castle walls and took a photo of the scene inside on his mobile phone.
Among the guests were top footballers including England's Theo Walcott and Craig Bellamy of Wales.
It will probably be the closest that players from football's top flight get to the pitch of Caldicot Castle AFC whose ground is next to the castle.
Sian Adams, of Caldicot Castle AFC, said: "We saw Aaron going into the castle last (Friday) night. They must have been having a look around."
Among those who went to the castle to see what was almost certainly the biggest name to get married there was Chloe Jones of Caldicot. She said: "I enjoyed being there and was ecstatic to get a selfie with Craig Bellamy."
A spokesan for Monmouthshire County Council said: "We'd like to congratulate Aaron and Colleen on their marriage and say once again how delighted we are that they chose Caldicot Castle and Country Park for their special day. Any high profile event is great for our county. Monmouthshire is gorgeous, with wonderful towns and villages, superb countryside, wonderful food and some amazing tourist destinations.
"Clearly the use of any of our facilities for weddings and other celebrations will draw attention to them and hopefully encourage others to do the same.
"But the most important thing about any wedding is the lifelong commitment that two people make to each other – and that's something we should all be celebrating."
