CCTV cameras installed after complaints of drivers doing so-called doughnut spins and power slides in a town centre car park led to two being warned for anti-social driving.
The cameras costing £3,703 were put up in February by the Forest Council to deter bad driving in their Newerne Street car park in Lydney.
Officers from Lydney neighbourhood policing team identified the two culprits from footage and issued them with orders under Section 59 of the Road Traffic Act, meaning they could have their cars confiscated if they repeat the offence.
A Gloucestershire Police spokesperson said: “Anti-social driving is a community concern for Lydney following reports from members of the public, and local police officers are taking action.
“Anyone with concerns about anti-social or criminal activity in their community should speak to a local officer or call Gloucestershire Constabulary on 101.”
The Forest Council installed the cameras following reports from residents that people were meeting in cars at the car park in Lydney, hanging around, driving anti-socially – including doughnut spins and power slides – and making anti-social noise.
Forest Council deputy leader Cllr Paul Hiett said at the time: “I was concerned when local people got in touch to tell us about anti-social behaviour taking place at the Newerne Street car park in Lydney.
“Working with Lydney Town Council and the police we looked at what was happening and what could be done.
“That’s why we’ve invested in four brand new CCTV cameras which are now recording right across the site, and hopefully deterring any future disruption.”
Cllr Alan Preest, the planning and highways committee chairman at Lydney Town Council, added: “The anti-social behaviour in Newerne Street car-park has been impacting on local residents quality of life for far too long.
“I’m delighted that Forest of Dean District Council has at last taken steps to monitor what is predominantly ‘out of hours’ activity on their property.
“I would hope that this will enable the police to act appropriately and swiftly when the need arises.”
Gloucestershire Police said last February: “We have received reports from local residents of anti-social behaviour involving vehicles in the Newerne Street Car Park area of Lydney.
“We have worked with Forest of Dean District Council, Lydney Town Council and local residents to find solutions for these issues.
“Police have carried out a number of operations and patrols in the area, issuing warning notices to identified offenders. We welcome this initiative of Forest of Dean District council in installing CCTV.”
