MORE than 100 tons of blankets, clothes, mattresses and other aid is on its way to Kosovan refugees thanks to Exel Logistics of Chepstow.

The firm supplied two trucks and drivers to run the huge collection amassed by the Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan Scout Group, who were amazed by the response they received from an appeal to the public.

A Scouts spokesman said: "We were expecting to collect just 25-30 tons. However, it is obviously an issue that people feel very strongly about and we were inundated."

The Scouts contacted Tesco in Bridgend to see if they would help with transport and the request was passed on to Exel, the store's distribution agents.

"We are extremely grateful for the assistance of Exel Logistics as we had been let down by other companies," said the Scouts spokesman.

The goods will hopefully provide some comfort for the thousands forced to leave their homes as a result of the conflict in the Balkans.
