CINDERFORD resi-dent Cheryl Barnes walked the view from her kitchen window earlier this month, to the Sugarloaf in Abergavenny, raising £385 for Great Western Air Ambulance (GWAA).

Cheryl began her walk from Cosmic Teapot Therapies Centre, her business in Elton Corner, saying: “It added an extra hill at the beginning, but as the route was 49 miles long, it didn’t make much difference.

“I decided to support GWAA because I know a number of people who have needed the service, including elderly neighbours who crashed their car near Speech House a few years ago.

“The area is remote yet has so many brilliant opportunities for kayaking, off-roading and climbing and, with a record number of people visiting the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean last year, the air ambulance is a vital service for locals and tourists alike.

“I can see Sugarloaf Mountain from my kitchen window and have always wanted to walk there. When I found out the GWAAC relies entirely on donations, it seemed like a good idea to do the walk to raise money for them and raise awareness of the vital work they do, as they receive no funding from government or from the National Lottery.”

The route Cheryl took passed through Brierley, Edge End and Christchurch before crossing the Wye. She took in parts of Offa’s Dyke Path and the Wysis Way, which connects Monmouth to the Thames path in the Cotswolds.
