YOUNG people from across the area made poignant Remembrance tributes.

Lydbrook Primary School held its Remembrance service at Lydbrook Church last Friday.

It included clay poppies made by the children who were inspired by the ceramic poppies which have attracted thousands of visitors at the Tower of London.

Pupils have been studying the First World War and gave readings on the causes of the war, life in the trenches and the end of the war.

There were also readings of poetry and songs that were popular in the First World War.

Jenny Davies dipped the Lydbrook British Legion standard as Robert Morgan of Lydbrook Band played The Last Post.

At the end of the service parents who had watched the service were invited to stay for a cup of tea and a slice of 'trench' cake.

At Hope Brook Primary School, in Longhope, a Remembrance garden has been created and poppies made by pupils were 'planted' in it on Armistice Day (Tuesday).

Pupils also wrote their own thoughts and tributes on the back of the poppies.

A 1940s tea party was held at the school to help pay for the construction of the garden and that raised some £170.

The garden will become an area where remember or reflect.
