THIS was the sight that greeted the owner of a silver Volkswagen Golf when she returned to a supermarket car park in Lydney last week.

Sophie Letheren-Powell, of Lakeside Avenue left her Golf in the car park of the Tuffins supermarket to go shopping with a friend.

But while she was away the vehicle was allegedly hit by another car and ended up wedged between a Ford Fiesta and a Landrover.

Another vehicle was also damaged in the incident which happened at about 3.10pm last Thursday (June 6).

Ms Letheren-Powell said: "It's so frustrating – any other day I would have walked into town but because I was meeting my friend I decided to drive in.

"I had literally left my car for an hour and came back to find that it had been hit and consequently wedged between two parked vehicles.

"My parents had pulled into the car park prior to the incident and noticed my car. They had been parked alongside the driver of a car. Then all of a sudden his car 'jumped' and he reversed into my car. My dad quickly moved his vehicle away from the scene and watched it unfold.

"I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I got back to my car. There were crowds of people in the car park and it was hard to see where my car was – I thought it had been stolen.

"It is now in my car insurance provider's hands but I have been told that it is a write off and since been provided with a courtesy car until I receive a payout for my vehicle.

"I can't believe nobody was hurt, at that time it is very busy with school kids making their way to the skate park and lake.

"Although we have had our cars damaged we can be thankful that nobody was seriously injured."

A spokesman for Gloucestershire Police said a 72-year-old man had been bailed in connection with the incident and is due to appear at Stroud Magistrates Court on July 1.
