A MONMOUTH woman died and a man sustained life-threatening injuries in a head-on car crash on the A466 near Tintern on Sunday morning (September 7).
Mrs Beryl Ellis, aged 79 of Wyesham, was travelling in the rear of a Ford Fiesta that was in collision with an Opal Manta between Tintern and Brockweir.
Mrs Ellis died at the scene and four other people were taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
The driver of the Opal was airlifted by air ambulance to Southmead with multiple injuries.
Two women and a man who were also travelling in the Fiesta were taken to Southmead along with a woman passenger from the Opal.
All the injured were said to be in a stable condition in hospital.
Gwent Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision which happened around noon or who saw the vehicles before the accident.
The Ford Fiesta was travelling south towards Chepstow and the Opel Manta was heading north towards Monmouth.
