ONE of the longest running free festivals in the UK has announced the line-up for its 35th anniversary event.
Monmouth Festival takes place from July 28 to August 5, and claims to be the one of the largest free festivals in Europe, with crowds of up to 3,000 watching bands on the main stage each night beside the historic Monnow Bridge.
This year’s event was in doubt owing to a £5,000 deficit in donations from festival shows, but a local business generously stepped in to ensure it went ahead.
Worcester rockabilly band The Delray Rockets, who have performed with the likes of Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant, kick off the festival on the main stage on Friday, July 28, followed by Bath rock five-piece Bare Knuckle Parade on the Saturday of the Bank Holiday weekend.
