IMPRESSIVE creations in wood and other materials went on display at a Forest school last week.

Among those visiting the showcase of GCSE technology students at Lakers School at Five Acres were the Mayor of Coleford, Cllr Paul Kay and Deputy Mayor Cllr Nick Penny.

The work ranged from tables and benches to a portable barbecue, part of which started life as a car wheel.

The high quality work certainly caught the eye of interim headteacher John Reilly.

He said: “There are a number pieces I’d like to buy but they won’t sell.

“I’m delighted with the quality and the time and effort they’ve put in.”

Teacher Simon Bignall said all 17 students who had taken the GCSE course had work on show.

He said: “We are grateful to International Timber (of Parkend) and Lydwood (of Lydbrook) who donated materials which has enabled the students to work with the materials they like.

“They have learnt the skills with other projects and applied that knowledge here.

“They have put in a lot of hours to produce quality work.”
