PEOPLE turned out in crowds to line the route of Ross Carnival Parade on Saturday – with riverside fun all afternoon and a super tug of war tournament on Sunday, it was a great weekend for the town.
With a Jubilee theme – parade entrants were all invited to incorporate gold and purple in their presentations – there was some real imagination at play with the floats and fancy dress walkers.
Winners of Group One for large floats were Ross Pre-school Playgroup with 'Cadbury's World', followed by Gresley's Group with 'Gresley's Reservation' and Friends of Walford Avenue with 'Celebrations of London'.
First in the smaller floats group was Micheala da Cunha's young friends in 'Sports Fever' with the RNLI's 'Stormy Sam the Lifeboat Man' second, while for large groups of 10 or more The gang as 'Peter Pan' won with the Ross United Services young football teams in their strip coming second.
First of the 40 walkers was Vicky Gardiner as a red, white and blue butterfly, second was Matthew Murray as a pirate, while third was Jenny Scrivens as Miss Ross In Bloom.
"There was great fun at the riverside – we only had a bit if rain," said Carnival secretary Jo Poole. "The tug of war on Sunday was terrific – we had an official judge and everyone had fun. They pulled each other all over the field!"
Women's winners were the Drop Inn Ladies, while the Drop Outs won the men's section.
Jo said the collection was well up on last year, when the Carnival suffered from torrential rain.
