FOREST district councillor Len Lawton kept his promise and took a soaking at the second Newent Big Lunch.

Glorious weather attracted more people than last year to The Lake for a Sunday afternoon of food, fun and fancy dress. This year's theme was Alice in Wonderland.

Town mayor Edward Wood kicked off proceeding alongside the Onion Fayre's mascot, Onion Ed.

Other highlights included music by nine-year-old Kai Haines who was with his friend, Paul Wirth and others. There were also plenty of stalls from ChillOut, Veg Out, Scouts, Sweet Memories and many more, including the ever-popular coconut shy.

Strawberry Hill Dancers provided some wonderful dance routines and the event was rounded off with a raffle of prizes donated by local companies and individuals.
