SCHOOL pupils called the roll of honour at Sydney’s war memorial of the men from the town who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The citizens’ act of remembrance took place at 11am on Armistice Day, November 11.
More than 160 people gathered at the refurbished war memorial for the annual act of homage to those who died in two world wars and other conflicts.
The names of members of The Rifles, whose first battalion is stationed at Beachley, and who died in Afghanistan were also read out.
Pupils from the Dean Academy, Severnbanks Primary School, Primrose Hill Academy and Lydney Church of England Primary School each laid a poppy in memory of one of the men whose names appear on the memorial.
Colin Davies, of Bream Band played Last Post and Reveille and Mr Tom Beverage of the Dean Academy read from Laurence Binyon famous poem For the Fallen which contains the line: “They shall not grow old”.
