ON August 31 1962, The Beatles played their one and only concert in Lydney.
Exactly 60 years to the day, tribute band The Mersey Beatles will recreate the sound that gripped the nation.
John, Paul, George and Ringo played Lydney Town Hall just months before Beatlemania took off.
The Mersey Beatles will deliver a hit-packed evening at the same venue.
The Mersey Beatles hail from Liverpool where they were the resident Beatles tribute at the legendary Cavern Club for a decade – playing more than 600 times at the world-famous Liverpool venue.
Since leaving The Cavern Club, the band – Mark Bloor (John), Steven Howard (Paul), Craig McGown (George) and Brian Ambrose (Ringo) – have toured the world many times over.
They have won legions of fans, including John Lennon’s own family and The British Beatles Fan Club who rate them as “The best Beatles tribute band around”.
Steve said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have been asked by Lydney Town Hall Trust to perform on the 60th anniversary of the very day The Beatles played in the town.
“It is really special for us to visit venues The Beatles themselves played, to stand where they stood and play those legendary songs.
“We played Lydney Town Hall back in 2018 and it was an incredible night, the audience was amazing so we cannot wait to ‘Get Back’ to this wonderful and historic venue.
“It’s going to be a great night!”
When The Beatles played Lydney Town Hall in 1962, drummer Ringo Starr had only been in the group for a fortnight.
Four days later the band went into Abbey Road Studios to record their first single Love Me Do.
Paul Trevatt, chair of the volunteer committee which runs Lydney Town Hall, said: “We are really excited to have the return of such talented band as The Mersey Beatles.
“We had such a great evening’s entertainment of Beatles songs from these Liverpool guys back in 2018 and eagerly await their return to Lydney for our very special 60th Beatles celebration.”
