AN EXTRA two sailings from Lydney have been announced aboard the Bristol Channel's very own pleasure steamer, Balmoral.

ON August 31 and September 14, the historic steamer built in 1949, will set sail from Lydney Docks heading along the Exmoor coast to Illfracombe in Devon.

Last week (pictured) around 300 people crowded onto the quay at Lydney Docks to join the river cruise, which is a big draw whenever the steamer calls in, which is usually about twice a year depending on the tides.

Andy O'Brian, Balmoral's captain, says: "Each year we bring back the tradition of pleasure cruises to the Bristol Channel. We are looking forward to welcoming our regular passengers from Lydney on board for a sail and hope to see some new faces this year.

"We really need the public to show their appreciation for the ship this year to ensure that we can continue sailing in 2012."
