WOOLASTON Carnival on Saturday joined forces with the school fete to provide entertainment all afternoon and into the evening.

Organiser John Anderson told the Review: “The sun shone and there was plenty going on. We had classic cars, hounds from Woolaston Bassets as well as the school choir, children’s races and lots of other entertainment.

“We took a chance and added an evening music stage this year. It was a great success and something we’ll build on in future years. As well as musicians from Cardiff, local 15-year-old Betty Hughes entertained the crowds and was fantastic. Her voice is beautiful.”

The event raised around £1,700 which will largely be used for the upkeep of Woolaston Memorial Hall.

John added: “We also had a stall at the carnival raising funds for the restoration of the village phone box. We’re looking at a range of community uses once work is complete. We hope to work with the school to design a sculpture that we can commission a local artist to create.”
