HUNDREDS of pounds have been raised by Rayner Opticians mixed netball fundraising tournament and disco hosted by Monmouth Netball Club.
Eight teams entered the tournament held at Monmouth Leisure Centre with Lyndean emerging victorious.
The teams taking part were The Sapphires, Crickhowell, Lyndean, Evesham Blues, Mizzi Gizzi, Moody Cows, Team Emma and Team Kate.
The teams played each other in 10-minute matches, with the top four qualifying for the semi-finals and the winners of the semis facing each other in the final. Monmouth MP David Davies attended the event, playing as goalkeeper for The Sapphires in the opening game.
After a close contest in blazing summer sunshine, Team Emma and Lyndean reached the final, with Lyndean victorious by a score of 6-3.
The stand out player of the tournament was Monmouth Town's Aaron Davies who swapped his football boots for trainers, played some very impressive netball and was a key player in the team's success.
Following the tournament, a beach-themed disco was held at Monmouth Rugby Club in Chippingham Gate Street, featuring a hula and limbo contest, sandcastle treasure hunt and karaoke. Raffle prizes were donated by Jewel Balti, Misbah Tandoori, DS Music, Thingymajigs, Harts, Pizza Express, Shirt box, Envisage, Salt and Pepper, Munday and Jones and Fingal Rock.
Organiser Caroline Owens said: "We raised £458 during the tournament and disco which is fantastic. This money will be put towards training and development at our club.
"I want to thank everyone that donated a raffle prize, all the teams for taking part in the tournament and helping to make it a success and to our event sponsors, Rayner Opticians, as without them we wouldn't have been able to raise as much money as we did."
