The Post Office is opening a new main style post office at McColls newsagents in the town centre to replace the current operation.

No date has been set for the move which will see the Post Office move about 100 yards from its current position

The new modernised Post Office will have three counter positions: two screened positions and a serving point at the retail counter offering selected services outside normal branch opening hours. All staff will be trained to meet Post Office professional standards.

There will be a hearing loop at the counter and adequate space will be provided for customers using a wheelchair.

The branch itself will open from 9am to 5:30pm Monday to Saturday, with selected Post Office products and services available from the retail counter 6am to 9am and 5:30pm to 7pm, Monday to Saturday and 7am to 2pm on Sunday when the main counters are closed.

This is an increase of 39 hours a week with the branch will opening earlier and closing later every day.

Services will include Special Delivery, Local Collect, home shopping returns, online banking cash deposits and withdrawals, sending funds abroad using Moneygram.

Customers can pay bills, pre-order travel money, apply for travel insurance and top up mobile phones.

Online banking cash deposits and withdrawals and bill payments can also be carried out at the Post Office - HSBC is closing its branch in Caldicot on Friday, June 3.

Posters confirming the date of the move will be displayed in the current Post Office in Newport Road.
