MANY readers will remember the old school at Primrose Hill, Lydney, which served the local community for over a hundred years up to the 1980s. Due to extensive housing development at that time it was replaced with the much needed modern building in School Crescent.
This left the various organisations that had been using it, such as Guides, Brownies and Women's Institute in need of new premises.
Thanks to the Bledisloe Estate, which had given the land for the original school, and to the generosity of many local people this was provided in 1990 with the extension to Holy Trinity Church, just up the road from the old site. It was intended that the church centre, with its well equipped kitchen and meeting room, would be a community building, bringing together the social, spiritual and recreational needs of the area.
This year, in the old way of celebration, the centre has 'come of age'. We believe the same community spirit that saw us all working together to get it built, needs to be kept alive today, when it is often difficult for modern groups to find suitable accommodation.
Among those who use the centre at present are the pre school group 'Pebbles', Senior Fellowship, Trinity Group and a local art group, but there is availability for more. It is suitable for one off parties or meetings as well on a more regular basis, and new users would be most welcome.
We so much want to see our church centre in use.
