A COUNCIL’S stray dog service has won a top gold standard award for the sixth year running.
Forest of Dean District Council said it was delighted to have been awarded the RSPCA PawPrints Gold Award yet again.
Last year, the charity awarded a Platinum award for five years of success.
PawPrints celebrates good practice by rewarding organisations that exceed basic and statutory service requirements with the aim of achieving higher animal welfare standards.
The award has three levels – bronze, silver and gold – which carry progressively more demanding criteria.
The street wardens thanked the two kennels, Sling and Littledean, as well as the Forest of Dean Dog Rescue for all their hard work throughout the year in supporting the recovery, veterinary care, reuniting and rehoming of strays.
Council leader Cllr Tim Gwilliam said: “The Community Engagement team including the street wardens have for a number of years been a shining beacon for the council.
“This further recognition and award only amplifies the diligence, innovation and expertise that the team uses on a daily basis, on many different subjects that face our communities.
“My colleague Cllr Paul Hiett is as proud as punch to be the portfolio holder that covers this team.
“The whole Cabinet and indeed the entire council share that pride.”
