DEVELOPERS want to demolish ‘underused’ industrial units in Lydney town centre and build 21 homes on their site.
Plans have been submitted to Forest of Dean District Council to demolish ten buildings to the rear of 15 High Street - currently occupied by Chilliz Indian Takaway - near Lydney Town Hall.
The development site is made up of corrugated and natural stone buildings with access to them from Templeway West.
The proposed houses would have rear gardens and the estate would have a shared turning area large enough to allow bin lorries and emergency services to access the site.
Consultants working on the scheme say the employment generation of the existing units on the site is extremely small.
And while the site is long established, it is underused and unsuitable for job creation.
They also said the proposals will not impact to any noticeable extent on the significance of setting of nearby listed buildings.
“Overall it is considered that the proposals deliver much-needed housing of an appropriate form, density and design within a highly sustainable location.
“The proposals accord with all relevant local and neighbourhood plan policies, national policies, legislation and guidance.”
The developers believe there are no reasons to rejected the scheme.
Residents have until August 31 to comment on the proposals on the council’s online planning portal by searching for planning application P1415/22/FUL.
District planners are expected to consider by October 30.
