I WAS a councillor on Monmouth Town Council for four years until May 2017 and from the first week on the council, ideas for refurbishing our play area were on our agenda almost every month and more aggressively when certain people wanted to ’move’ the play area closer to Waitrose.
When this was unanimously rejected by the then town council for the second time “and the public,” the so-called Friends of Chippenham were formed.
Fact: When R Jupp mentions Cornwall House and Chippenham Court, that was the next attempt at moving our play area.
The ground on which their second choice was put forward is not only right next to the retirement homes of local residents – all of whom signed a petition against putting a new play area on this part of Chippy.
Fact: This area is also for mini football matches and practice held every weekend during the summer months – 300 plus players and families attend.
The so-called Friends of Chippenham Mead have two more proposed areas – all have been rejected by residents and ex-councillors.
Make no mistake: our play area will be refurbished in its previous and present position.
When any normal person visits a town and wants to know where a particular place is, they ask.
As for our play area, two minutes and 50 yards from the car park.
Not much to ask.
