CINDERFORD swimming pool opened to the public again on Monday after the failure of the pool’s filtration system forced its closure earlier in the month.

A brand new filter has been fitted, funded by Freedom Leisure and Forest of Dean District Council, amid concerns that the long-term future of the pool is still undecided.

Cllr Brian Robinson (Con, Mitcheldean), Deputy Leader of the Forest of Dean District Council, said: “We hope this joint investment shows the commitment from both organisations to keep the pool and adjoining fitness facilities open to the public. The council acknowledges that there is public concern regarding the future of Cinderford Leisure Centre. The council and Forest High School are currently engaged in positive negotiations with a view to securing a long-term solution for the centre.

“We aim to reach an agreed resolution by the end of September 2016. In the meantime the leisure facilities will continue to operate as normal.”
