I AM sure that anyone visiting Lydney Lake since April 2015 have witnessed the disastrous state of the potholes in the area.
This is a regular haunt not only of visitors but of many locals, including walkers, mothers and toddlers with pushchairs, dog walkers, runners and fishermen to name but a few, also disabled people.
It must be said that the trust have on two occasions attempted to repair the potholes but to my mind with inadequate material and method.
This material contains small ‘rocks’ which is removed very easily from the potholes once laid and I have personally witnessed such material being thrown at wildlife on and off the lake, into the lake and onto my property.
But what is particularly distressing is to witness carers with disabled people trying to manoeuvre wheelchairs around these potholes.
Such people, as do many others, derive great pleasure from visiting the lake and it is such a shame to see them hampered by such obstacles.
This not only concerns a health and safety issue but the welfare of the general public.
I have been informed by the trust that “the choice of material used remains that of the trust and there is no valid reason to tarmac said area and incur such expense.”
Regarding expense, in the last year, the electorate of Lydney has paid a minimum of £7,000 plus more than £3,000 expenses (more than £10,000) for an employee of Lydney Town Council to take one course on its own.
If the council has got this sort of money, especially in such times of austerity, surely it should have been used more wisely?
It would have better been spent in permanently repairing these potholes or perhaps even erecting a fence to keep the boar off the mesne at Primrose Hill for the benefit of Lydney residents rather than on one individual?
