The Forest of Dean is known for its beautiful countryside and landscapes, and with the end of summer looming, now might be the perfect time to take advantage.

Harrow Hill Glamping, Drybrook

This campsite provides furnished bell tents and a ready-to-use kitchen tent, and each tent has a dedicated portaloo and shower cubicle.

On-site there are friendly alpacas, and plenty of nearby walking and cycling trails where deer, rabbits and boar can be seen.

The site is on the edge of an ancient forest, and is just a five minute drive from Cinderford. A barbecue is provided and campfires are allowed, and the tents house three, four, six or eight people, with prices starting from £100 a night for three people.

The Field Campsite, Coleford

This pop-up wild camping site is a 15 minute walk from the centre of Coleford, and offers pitches for regular tents, bell tents or motorhomes. A more basic campsite, The Field features a portaloo, ice pack freezine, and has firepits for hire.

The scenic site benefits from panoramic sunset views, and there are plenty of woodlands, caves and ponds nearby. Prices start from £10 a night for two adults.

Greenacres Campsite, Coleford

Greenacres is in the centre of the Forest of Dean, close to Clearwell Caves, and has plenty of options for accommodation, from pitches for tents or motorhomes with optional electric, to wooden camping lodges. There is a nearby playground for children, and barbecues are allowed.

The site features a toilet block, a launderette, a parent and baby washroom and wi-fi. Prices start from £18 a night for two adults.

Whitemead Forest Park, Lydney

This site is just outside Parkend, and offers tent pitches, motorhome pitches, lodges and even apartments. The park’s features include a gym, a sauna, an indoor swimming pool, a restaurant and bars. There is also a launderette and various bathroom facilities.

Nearby, there are plenty of walking and cycling routes, as well as access to watersports and horse riding. Prices for the site start from £18.50 a night for six people.

Secret Escape to the Forest, Coleford

Close to Puzzlewood is this quiet site, which features en-suite shepherd’s huts and is surrounded by woodland.

The site features a shower block and is near a bar, as well as a farmer’s market. It is also close to various caves, castles and canoe rentals. Prices for the huts start from £80 a night for two adults.

Visitor’s review: “The shepherd’s hut we stayed in was clean and tidy with all the amenities you need and the hosts were fantastic. It was situated in a remote area right next to the Forest and was a perfect getaway.”
