RESURFACING works in Symonds Yat take place on Monday, December 5 for 11 days forcing the road to close through the day in the week.
The road from the Folly Lane junction in Hillersland will be fully resurfaced past Symonds Yat to the county boundary with Herefordshire.
The work is expected to complete on Friday, December 16.
The road will close to traffic from 7.30am until 5.30pm each week day.
A signed diversion will be in place via English Bicknor, Stowfield Road, the B4234, the B4229 and Goodrich, and vice versa.
Access to the car parks for Symonds Yat Rock will be maintained but visitors are advised to follow signs as access may be via the diversion depending on where the resurfacing is taking place on any given day.
Riverside pubs and hotels can be accessed from the north using the normal route from the B4229. Access from the Hillersland direction will not be possible during the road closures.
The road will be open overnight and at the weekend.
Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, said: "The road to Symonds Yat is a one of the Forest of Dean’s most popular tourist routes so we’re doing our repairs out of season, avoiding weekends, to keep disruption to a minimum.
"The work will see 1200 tonnes of asphalt laid to give a brand new road surface and I’d like to thank local people for their patience when following the diversion we’ll have in place."
