LYDNEY Harbour was alive with music, boats and people on Saturday as Lydney Yacht Club Rally and the Docks Festival Music Day joined forces for a family fun day.
Organiser Derek Biddle said: “Sixteen visiting boats arrived on the high tide, mainly from Sharpness and Thornbury, to a great welcome from Lydney people and accompanied by music from Whisky River. There were rowing boats and canoes and a duck race was organised by the Sea Cadets in the harbour’s inner basin, even though the brisk breeze made the river very choppy.”
Model boats of the Severn and Wye, square-rigged ships of the line and detailed models were on display and music was also provided by Jazz Lads, the Baldwin Brothers and Top Cat.
Visiting boats attended a service organised by Riverside Church before leaving Lydney Docks at midday on Sunday to the song Sailing from ukulele band Friends Ukenited.
Derek added: “Last year the Environment Agency stopped visiting boats as the harbour gates leaked too badly, so we were really pleased that everyone made it through this year.”
