MORE than 50 youngsters tested their running, swimming, jumping and throwing skills in a mini triathlon competition.

Saturday morning’s event was hosted by St John’s-on-the-Hill School in Tutshill and included Berry Hill Primary School, Primrose Hill Church of England Academy from Lydney, Rogiet Primary School St John’s Church of England Academy from Coleford and young members of the Forest of Dean Athletics Club.

Head of girls’ games at St John’s-on-the-Hill, Lisa Duncan, said: “We thought it would be a good idea to invite local primary schools and give them the opportunity to compete in something different.

“The children all gave their best and it was a fantastic morning – and we’d also like to thank the teachers and parents for giving up their Saturday morning to bring them.”

“Triathlon is usually an individual sport but we made it a team event.”

The event was split into three sections: a 400m run, two lengths of the 12m swimming pool and a multi-skills challenge involving a jump from a standing start, bench step ups, a bean bag throw, an agility run and an object pick-up.

The winners were the St John’s Lions team and runners up were the athletic club.
