COLEFORD’S fifth annual busking festival went with a swing on Saturday (June 4).
Twenty-four acts appeared on the stage between 9.30am and 4pm and a further four signed up and busked around the town.
Organiser Nick Penny told the Review: “Musicians from all over the country took part but many of them were local.
“We had a really eclectic mix of musicians ranging from one man from Elwood whistling to a 20-piece ukulele band who meet regularly at Moseley Green.
“The atmosphere was great and we had a very good crowd. It really brought the streets of Coleford alive and gave a lovely feel to the town. A couple of the traders commented to me on how good it was to see it so busy and that’s what we wanted to achieve.”
The festival was fully funded by Coleford Town Council and marks the launch of regular Saturday events in the town. This Saturday (June 11) sees an event to mark the Queen’s birthday with children’s craft workshops from 10am to 1pm and children’s entertainment.
The musical highlight will be Coleford Music Festival which takes place in the town on July 16 and 17.
Nick said: “Geno Washington and the Ram Jam band are headlining on the Sunday and on Saturday Two Rude, a ska band from Newport, are supported by Newnham singer songwriter Devon.”
