A NEW Waitrose supermarket will open in Caldicot on Thursday, June 18.

The chain bought the Newport Road store in January and will be starting a two week shop makeover and training programme on June 4.

All former Somerfield staff have been offered work in the new shop, Waitrose confirmed.

Branch manager Nigel Huxley said: "With the economic climate as it is, it's great to start to be achieving our long-term goals for the business, and investing in a town such as Caldicot, which truly encompasses our passions for quality food and community spirit.

"With just over two months to go, it's a very exciting time for us as we start to see our plans for the new store take shape.

"I'd like to thank everyone in Caldicot in advance for their patience and understanding throughout the refurbishment."
