FUNDS raised by this year’s Newnham Live music festival have benefitted two local charities to the tune of £4,750.

Members of the festival organising committee last week presented a cheque for £2,750 to Great Oaks Hospice, while the remaining £2,000 goes to the festival venue, St. Peter’s Church.

“We’re delighted to be supporting both the hospice and the church,” said committee member Jane Curtis. “It was great to visit the hospice to present the cheque. We’re all so impressed with what it contributes to our community.”

It’s the second year that Newnham Live has been able to donate to the hospice.

The Rev. Dr. Rob James, the Vicar of St. Peter’s and another of the festival organisers said: “The festival works because of the high quality of the music and the high quality of the whole event. Everyone, both bands and audience, has great fun when they come.

“For finance we rely on a combination of good ticket sales and sponsorship.

“We are currently putting together plans for next year’s festival. If any local companies want to get involved, just get in touch via the contact details on the website.”

This year’s festival was sponsored by several local companies including Freeman Homes and Ferrino Estate Agents.
