THREE of the Forest’s best-loved musical groups came together for an evening to raise funds for Cancer Research.
The evening at Lydney Town Hall – entitled Bring Me Sunshine – on Friday (April 12) brought together the Forest Musical Society, the Forest of Dean Male Voice Choir and the Springfield Singers,
It was dedicated to two singers – Ann Fisher and Francis James – who died of cancer. Both were former members of the Forest Musical Society and Ann was an active member of the Springfield Singers.
The evening, in front of a packed audience at Lydney Town Hall – which was made available free-of-charge – raised more than £1,300 for Cancer Research.
Elliott Burge, of the Forest Musical Society, who announced the total, said: “Thanks to everyone for their tremendous support.”
Each of the groups had a spot in each half giving them the opportunity to showcase their repertoire.
The Male Voice Choir started the evening with Rhythm of Life, Chatanooga Choo Choo, Hey Look Over Me and Anthem.
During the second half, their pieces included classics such as Bohemian Rhapsody and local favourite Land Between Two Rivers.
The musical society showcased both solo and ensemble pieces with Frankie D’Amato starting things off with As Long as He Needs Me.
Joey Prescott and Jackson-Reeve Turley reprised their version of Pure Imagination from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory when microphone gremlins affected the first version.
Among the pieces was It’s Your Wedding Day from The Wedding Singer, a favourite show of Ann Fisher. The Springfield Singers, conducted by Sarah Waycott, also performed a wide repertoire including Candle on the Water, I See You and This is Me.
The Singers celebrate their 35th anniversary this year and their annual concert takes place at the Dean Academy on Saturday, May 11.
