AN EARTHQUAKE with a magnitude of 2.9 hit Caldicot this afternoon (Sunday, May 16).
There were reports of tremors in the surrounding villages of Portskewett and Sudbrook and in Chepstow.
The earthquake was centred on Caldicot but tremors were felt as far away as Bristol, according the British Geological Survey’s seismology team which is the UK’s national earthquake monitoring service.
Reports on social media said windows rattled and it felt like a car had hit the house.
