GOOD to see that common-sense for once has prevailed and that the High Court has quashed the decision to allow a huge windmill at Stroat.
It was evident that the vast majority of people in the vicinity were opposed to it.
Notwithstanding that, even council planning officers on this occasion had advised that there would be a highly detrimental effect on the landscape.
The promise of derisory bribes to the community are worthless in the big picture and the High Court was absolutely correct that they should not in any way influence the planning decision.
Local planners and indeed planning members must learn from this decision, become well versed, and ensure that taxpayers’ money is not jeopardised from the very start in any future applications.
The claim from the ‘feed-in tariff’-inspired developer that the decision was “undemocratic” is quite frankly absurd.
The parish council, the district council and the vast majority of local people rejected the Aylburton monster windmill and had it foisted on them only on an-out of-area remote appeal.
Now that’s what you call undemocratic. End of.
