A WELL-LOVED Newent resident who died aged 103 earlier this year will have his name live on in a new housing scheme being built in the town.

Mr Bert Bullock, fondly known as ‘Uncle Bert’, was a long-standing Two Rivers Housing tenant. After his passing the association was asked to suggest road names for the new affordable homes at Foley Road and chose to name one in his memory.

Forest of Dean District Council has now approved the suggestions, and Bullock Way will serve as a lasting tribute to the popular resident.

Mr Bullock lived in Newent for decades and walked in the town almost every day, greeting people with a wave and a smile, and was always happy to stop and chat. He would never pass anyone by and knew just about everybody.

On his 100th birthday Two Rivers gave his much-loved garden a makeover.

Garry King, chief executive at Two Rivers Housing, said: “Bert was a lovely man and it is very fitting to have a new road named after such an iconic member of the Newent community.”

Bullock Way is one of the roads where Persimmon Homes is building 48 affordable homes of mixed styles and sizes for Two Rivers Housing. The first residents will move in later this year.
