A PENSIONER who died after a collison with a car on a busy village road has been named.

An inquest was opened today (Wednesday, January 9) at Hereford Coroners Court into the death of 81-year-old Selwyn Charles Perry on the B4221 in Gorsley, between Newent and Ross-on-Wye.

Mr Perry died while walking on the B4221 close to his home on Sunday, December 30.

West Mercia Police say he was in collision with a Mini shortly before 6pm and was declared dead at the scene of the crash near the closed down village post office.

Shocked villagers laid floral tributes at the roadside on New Year’s Eve in tribute to the crash victim.

One of the first people on the scene was reportedly a doctor who is a member of Gorsley Baptist Church, which now runs the post office from its own premises, but sadly there was nothing he could do.

Officers believe the car was travelling towards Gloucester and have appealed for any witnesses who may have seen the accident or the Mini prior to the crash to call 101 quoting incident 0460S of 30 December 2018.
