THE Mill Race, Walford has been named Publican Awards Food Pub of the Year.

All the food used at the restaurant is produced locally and the restaurant even has its own farm, producing meat, poultry, eggs and some fruit and vegetables.

Landlord Luke Freeman said: "Winning this award is a fantastic achievement for us. I am very proud of all our staff for their continued hard work.

"Our vision for the business has always been to deliver best quality local food and drink in a comfortable environment.

"It has been challenging to strike the balance between offering great food to diners at the same time as offering a fantastic pint of local ale to our locals but we have achieved this and this really impressed the judges.

"In difficult times, the key is to listen to what your customers want."

Mr Freeman says he intends to open a farm shop next to the pub.

In March the Mill Race also won the Green Initiative Pub of the Year Award for efforts to reduce the pub's impact on the environment.
