A CHARITY dog walk on Sunday saw around 40 dogs and their owners turn out for a stroll at Bracelands near Coleford to raise money for Forest of Dean Dog Rescue (FDDR).
Treasurer Maggie Marshall said: “This is the first event like this that we’ve run and it was a fabulous day. We walked around two and three quarter miles and all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We asked people to make a donation to enter and we were thrilled to raise £136.
“We’d also really like to thank Forest Holidays who sponsored the event and held collections at quiz nights, as well as putting out a collecting tin which raised another £94 for us. They were terrific hosts and were very generous.
Helen Szuluk and Maggie work together with Jan Borret from A1 Rescue to rescue dogs in and around the Forest but also from puppy farms further afield.
Maggie added: “We recently took in ten adult dogs and when they come from a puppy farm they
need medical attention, such as having their teeth checked under anaesthetic. Before we re-home dogs, we neuter, vaccinate and microchip them, which means it costs around £250 to £300 per dog. We don’t have kennels, instead all our dogs are fostered while they wait to be re-homed. We also have around 30 dogs in long-term foster care and rely on donations to care for them all.”
