THE TWO companies bidding for the contract to deal with non-recyclable waste in south Wales will explain their plans at a roadshow in Caldicot.
Veolia ES Aurora and Viridor Waste Management are in the running for the 25-year contract to treat waste that is not recycled - also known as residual waste - for five councils including Monmouthshire.
The Welsh Government has set a recycling and composting target of 70 per cent and the councils are aiming for a combined target of 65 per cent with the other five per cent coming through the treatment of residual waste.
Both companies are proposing solutions that would generate electricity from treating the waste.
The waste roadshow will be at Caldicot Leisure Centre on Saturday, January 28 between 10am and 2pm.
Latest figures show Monmouthshire is some of the highest recycling rates in Wales.
The county is joint top of the Welsh recycling league with Ceredigion with 59 per cent of waste being either recycled or composted.
But as more people are using the council's kerbside recycling service, fewer are using carton recycling banks.
Five little-used carton banks will be removed in February including one at Withy Close, Magor.
