A MAGICIAN who has been cycling around the coast of mainland Britain while busking on the streets is appealing for riders to join him on the last stage of his epic 5,700-mile journey this Sunday (September 30).
Colin Lanfear from Alvington, who goes by the stage name Magic Colin, set off more than four months ago on May 11 in a bid to help raise £15,000 to complete the building of a health care centre in Ghana.
His original plan was extended to include cycling around six Scottish islands, Angelsey, Lindisfarne and the Isle of Wight, climbing Britain’s top peaks Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis , and traversing a section of Hadrian’s Wall from Newcastle to Carlisle and back.
And he will be completing his ride with a welcome home party at The Woodman Pub in Parkend after his expected arrival around 2pm.
Anyone wishing to join him on the last leg of his journey from the Severn Bridge in Chepstow, which he should reach about 12.30pm, can contact him on 07964 755647.
Colin told the Review this summer: “I’m a semi-professional magician and family entertainer. I’ve wanted to do this bike ride for a few years and partly I’m doing it now because I can.
“I enjoy cycling very much and annually my friend and I talked about cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats. It remained just talk though, and you can’t keep saying you’ll do something next year.
“I wanted to raise money for the Adoley Centre, which offers support for adults and children with disabilities in the Amasaman district.
“The charity was set up by my brother-in-law and I’ve been involved with it for about five years now.
“I’m raising money to finish a multifunction building on the site.
“I have my magic show condensed into one small case and will perform on the streets of the towns and cities I pass through, offering up my hat for donations for my accommodation and food and for the Adoley project.”
Along the way, he stayed with Stuart Williams, former chair of Dean Forest Railway, who now runs the Tallywyn heritage railway.
