AS a Cinderford resident I have been following with interest the letters regarding Asda coming to Cinderford, also the pro-Asda group demonstrating outside the Co-op.
Chris Richardson comments in his letter of October 5 and stated that Asda had not communicated.
Is there a definite guarantee that Asda will come to Cinderford even if Trilogy Developments Ltd planning application is successful? I?note that the planning applications and documents are all in the name of the developer Trilogy, none are naming Asda. I appreciate hearsay has it that Asda are coming but I have not heard any mention of a definite contract between Trilogy and Asda committing Asda to the site. Perhaps this is why Asda are not commenting?
If there is no contract then Trilogy, if successful, would be free to hold the site indefinitely or dispose of the site with valid planning permission to any store such as Waitrose, Aldi, Tesco, Morrisons, Farm Foods or, my biggest worry, another Co-op!
Surely the people of Cinderford are entitled to a commitment or are we being misled again as we have been for the past 16 years or so with Tesco?
Do the pro Asda group realise they may well be demonstrating for one of the other stores?
