A COLEFORD cat called Will has become a bit of a hero, after ‘rescuing’ a cat that had been hit by a car and dragging it home.
Karen Selby, Will’s owner, says this isn’t the first time Will has stepped in to ‘help’ another cat.
She said: “This cat was very distressed, so I contacted Cats Protection who agreed to pay for vets fees and then took it to Drybridge Vets in Coleford for X-rays.
“The poor cat had renal failure, damaged kidneys and a broken pelvis as a result of a road accident. She was put to sleep but, thanks to Will, she spent her last hours being warm and cared for rather than left at the side of the road.”
The owner of the cat wasn’t traced, but Joyce Moss of Forest of Dean Cats Protection said: “If you lose a cat, please contact us as we have a very good find rate.
“We recently reunited a cat with its owner after three years. A lady in Trellech reported a tabby and white cat visiting her fields. No-one knew where the cat had come from so it was advertised on Forest of Dean Cats Protection Facebook and within an hour Tasha Farrant rang to say that the cat looked Splinter, who had gone missing from her home in Llanishen three years ago.
“Splinter had a litter of kittens before she vanished. Once they became active, she took them into a nearby wood. All the kittens returned home but Splinter didn’t. Tasha looked everywhere but drew a blank. Eventually, she moved to Lydney. She agreed that because she had a new cat and lived in a busy town, Splinter, who has an independent streak, would stay in Trellech with the lady who found her.”
If you lose – or find – a cat you can post on Facebook/Cats Protection Forest of Dean Branch or call the helpline on 01594 841511.
