YORKLEY Star Cricket Club (YSCC) has bagged a share of a £11.5 million carrier bag charge fund.
The club was awarded £12,000 from Tesco Bags of Help, after eight million shoppers up and down the country voted between February 27 and March 6.
The grant will be used to fence the cricket pitch at Cut and Fry Green and repair boar damage to the ground. YSCC representative Alec Kear says: “We hope to start up village cricket again on the ground and look forward to welcoming past members and new players, both young and old, male and female. If you think you might like to join us with our brand new village cricket club contact me on 01594 563165.
“We would like to thank everyone who voted and helped us to get such a substantial grant from Tesco. We would also like to thank Richard Leppington, for helping us to achieve an award from Active Gloucestershire, and West Dean Parish Council and Gloucestershire Environmental Trust who helped us to achieve our target funding.”
Over 4,500 groups applied for grants from the Bags of Help scheme. Grants were awarded to three groups in each of Tesco’s 390 regions.
