LydNEY Angling Club welcomed a full house of 32 anglers for the open competition held on Sunday to mark the club’s 100th anniversary.
Overall they caught 220lb in glorious conditions at Lydney Lake with much of the catch being bream.
Club spokesman Matt Grindle said: “The lake fished well.”
The winning weight was 40lb 10oz which was caught on peg 36 by Andy Salcombe, second was Roy Wellington with 22lb 7oz from peg 40 and Matt Grindle was third with 20lb 5oz, caught from peg three. Fourth was Sam Prosser with 18lb 14oz, Steve Evans was fifth with 17lb 15oz and sixth was Jason Wellington with 17lb 9oz, who all left with prize money.
The biggest fish of the day was a 13lb 4oz mirror carp caught by Derrick Hale from peg five.
The club was formed after the First World War and in the early years fished a number of waters including the River Lyd, Lydney Canal and the tin works pool.
The club took on the fishing rights of Lydney Lake from the late 1950 and has secured the future of the lake by taking on a long-term lease on the water with Lydney Recreational Trust, with whom it has a good working relationship.
The club has a regular fish restocking programme in order to sustain the fish population with carp and bream the predominant species in Lydney Lake although roach, perch, tench, pike and eels also present.
The club also has a very active junior section, with matches held every Wednesday evening from early May through to late August.
