SIX young rugby players from Drybrook RFC have been selected for the Gloucestershire girls’ U15 squad.

Ellie Keene, Hannah Kibble, Tillie Westwood, Hollie Bishop, Amy Cooke and Lily-Mae Walker were picked after 87 youngsters attended trials at Tewkesbury RFC in October.

The high standard of the triallists meant the girls had a nervous wait to see if they had been selected in the final squad of 30, but all six made the cut.

Last weekend the girls were named in the squad of 22 to take on Somerset on their home pitch having already travelled to Oxford and Cornwall for other matches.

Having narrowly lost to Dorset and Wiltshire 15-12 in a really close match in Cornwall, they were welcomed onto the Drybrook pitch by a large crowd.

But things didn’t go their way in the first half as they found themselves trailing 41-5 at half-time.

Determined to put things right, the Gloucestershire team suddenly found their form, producing some high-class rugby to “win” the second half 42-10 as Somerset just held on for victory 51-42.
